| By definition, a
work of art may be a painting, a sculpture, a piece
of carved-furniture, or anything that is considered
as beautiful or artistic. In that sense, poetry,
writings and dance or any other form of ex-pression
lends itself to artistic symbolism.
In modern times,
even media such as photography and films have been
used to create works of art. However, because of
this vast definition, the boundaries which encompass
what may be considered to be art works are so
blurred that it is not unusual for a famous art work
to become the subject of controversy. In addition,
with the introduction of contemporary art media such
as internet websites, advertisements and films, the
definition of what is an art work has become even
wider.
The point of an art
work sculpture or indeed of any art work is to
stimulate human imagination and to touch the souls
of whoever sees it. The value and greatness of an
artwork, whether it is traditional christian art
work or art bamboo work, depends on how much it
affects viewers. The degree to which individuals are
moved upon seeing such an artistic creation is the
best indicator of the artist’s skill. Famous works
of art have all acquired their reputation and
consequently boosted the reputation of their
creators because of their ability to stir the
spirits of onlookers.
In traditional art,
one of the features that one must consider when
making an art work is its design. This refers to the
inspiration of the artist to create that particular
work of art. Famous works of art from the
Renaissance period often involved the male form as
this was believed to be akin to the form of God.
Male characters art work sculpture from Greek
mythology and historical figures were very popular
in Europe.
There can be no
education art work-related, that would be complete
without a study of the works of Leonardo da Vinci.
Da Vinci as he is popular known was born on April
15, 1452 near Vinci in Italy. Upon his birth, none
could possibly have envisioned that this
illegitimate son of a peasant woman would rise to
such heights as to be hailed for his prowess as a
mathematician, physicist, artist, engineer,
architect, musician and writer through history.
Leonardo da vinci
art work often contributed to the development of a
field. Some of his greatest paintings include the
mysterious Mona Lisa, The Last Supper and the
Vitruvian man. But these were not his only major
accomplishments. Leonardo was a man with a vision
and his schematic drawings included plans of
inventions such as the helicopter, the calculator
and Da Vinci has even foreseen the use of solar
power as an energy resource. Like with all famous
artists and art-works however, Da Vinci (and his
creations) was often the centre of controversy. The
recent publication of Dan Brown’s ‘The Da Vinci
code’, once again reopened the age-old saga of
controversy that has surrounded many of Da Vinci’s
works. |
